LIUNA Celebrates Public Service Recognition Week

Washington, D.C. (May 5, 2014) –Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today on Public Service Recognition Week:

“The theme of this year’s Public Service Recognition Week, from May 4-10, 2014, is “Proud to Serve.”  The Laborers International Union of North America (LIUNA) is very proud to represent over 70,000 public employees in our great union.

“LIUNA salutes the hard-working men and women who serve this nation as federal; healthcare; education; and state, county, and local government employees.  Our Union is proud to represent public employees who protect our national security, and who are themselves deployed into combat, putting their lives at risk to protect our freedom.  LIUNA is proud to represent health care workers who care for our families and neighbors, including our returning veterans.  LIUNA is proud to represent the people who plow our roads during snowstorms and clean our parks so they are safe and clean for our children.  LIUNA is proud to represent workers who drive our students to and from school on the bus and make sure they are well-fed and learning in the best environment while they are there.

“Now, more than ever, our public employees are being asked to do more with less while facing attacks on their job security and retirement security.  Public service is a calling, and LIUNA is proud that you have heeded that call.

“LIUNA thanks all of our public employees for your valued service to our communities.”
